Parishioners at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Warr Acres, Oklahoma, are in a tizzy over the new crucifix hanging over the altar. The crucifix was created by local artist Janet Jaime and installed in February.

The problem? Jesus appears to have a massive erection.
At least that’s what many people see. One visitor said, “I was appalled at the sexualization of Christ.” A longtime church member told the local paper, “I think it’s an embarrassment to our Lord. I think it’s an embarrassment to our parishioners.”
The church’s pastor isn’t so sure. “I’ve had people who have vocally said that that’s what they see there. I’ve had people who have been just as vocal who said that’s not what they’re seeing there.”
It sure looks like a giant penis to me, except it’s in the wrong place. Jesus’s scrotum is way up where his belly button should be.
The Warr Acres crucifix is a variation on the San Damiano cross, a traditional Catholic icon. The original San Damiano crucifix shows Jesus with a pronounced concave abdomen, and later artistic interpretations usually play up this feature. Just not usually quite so penislike.
