Googling around for baseball card info for the previous post, I stumbled across this outrageous bit of accidental porn on the back of Greg Briley’s card in the 1993 Donruss set.

The most famous dirty baseball card of all time is Billy Ripken’s 1989 Fleer “Fuckface” card.

At the time, Ripken blamed teammates for writing “fuckface” on his bat as a prank. In 2008, however, he fessed up to sportswriter Darren Rovell in “Billy Ripken Obscenity Bat: He Finally Talks 20 Years Later“. Ripken had written “fuckface” himself on one of his batting practice bats, then absent-mindedly used that bat when the Fleer photographer asked him for a quick photo.
Ripken also remains suspicious of the card company. “I can’t believe the people at Fleer couldn’t catch that. I mean, they certainly have to have enough proofreaders to see it. I think not only did they see it, they enhanced it. That writing on that bat is way too clear. I don’t write that neat. I think they knew that once they saw it, they could use the card to create an awful lot of stir.”
