You may have seen this story already: a French porn studio is making a XXX flick about Dominique Strauss-Kahn, the politician accused of raping a hotel maid, to be called DXK.
The most common first response was OUTRAGE! or at least OMG WTF? My first response was, that’s gotta be a hoax.
For starters, this description of the company’s business model sounds shady. “The production company’s website has called on members of the public to help fund the film’s €200,000 production. A minimum of €50 will secure their names in the credits and an invitation to the premiere.” If you wanted to raise money to produce a film, soliciting thousands of small investments on your website would be a very stupid way to go about it. I’ve never heard of a real company raising capital this way.
On the other hand, if you wanted to generate tons of buzz and traffic for your shady website, sending out press releases about your guaranteed-to-offend DSK rape porn parody would be a pretty clever way to go about it.
Slate and HuffPo refer to the porn studio as “My Porn Company”. The French news sources call it “My Porn Production”. Googling either name brings up no information about the company, except for dozens more blog/news items about the supposed DSK porno.
However, I did find an earlier French newspaper article about the project, which included a link to MyPornProductions.com, a vaguely professional-looking site soliciting investments in three porn projects, including DXK. The site includes a cast list and some production stills.
OK, even a jaded libertine like Daze is thinking OMG WTF at this point. Seriously monsieurs, WTF?
On the hoax possibility side, it’s interesting what MyPornProductions.com does not include. No mention of films the company has actually made before. No mention of how consumers or distributors might watch or purchase the studio’s films. The site’s entire focus is on soliciting “investors”.
On the real possibility side, HotVideo.fr has an article and more production stills. So does this promo site for the lovely Katia de lys.
So DXK would appear to be a real porn flick in the works. All the same, Daze Reader strongly recommends against investing without reading the fine print.
