Casting the roles of Anastasia and Christian for the officially-sanctioned Hollywood adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey is turning into a debacle. Nine months ago it seemed like young A-listers were clawing to get the roles. Now it seems like they’re having trouble finding anyone famous who wants to do BDSM, even sanitized Hollywood BDSM, on screen.
Latest dropout: Emma Watson. She has long been a rumored frontrunner for Anastasia. Last week a hacker supposedly uncovered a studio document showing Watson already under contract. Then she responded:
So much for that shlemiel hacker coup. So did the hacker forge the supposed studio document? Or did he come across something speculative and misunderstand what it said? Or did the studio actually punk the hacker by planting false information where it could be easily “hacked”?
OK, so we won’t be seeing Hermione Granger nipple-clamped and red-buttocked. Who’s next?
Also last week, Kate Moss read an excerpt from the first novel on a BBC radio telethon.
Now several gossip sites claim that Moss is a real candidate to play Anastasia Steele in the movie. Moss is 39, and the character is 21. Plus, if she can’t read two minutes of dialogue without cracking up, how is she gonna do three full movies? No judgment — I doubt that I could read that aloud with a straight face either.
Other Anastasia possibilities being floated: Kristin Stewart, Mila Kunis, Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Roberts, Rooney Mara, Dakota Fanning, Elizabeth Olsen, Shailene Woodley, Lily Collins, Alexis Bledel, Alexandra Daddario, Emilia Clarke, Lucy Hale, Bella Heathcote, Analeigh Tipton, Amber Heard, Krysten Ritter, Felicity Jones, Miranda Kerr, Nina Dobrev, Ashley Greene, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Lauren Watson, Blake Lively. I’ve never heard of half these people, who I assume are on TV shows I don’t watch.
